Lecture for September 4th, 2013: Should anyone use CVP anymore?

This month, given the amount of critical care time we face at NMH and the discussions on rounds, we will consider the utility of CVP as a guide to fluid resuscitation and as a clinical marker by reviewing the papers below, and an EMCRIT podcast.

Listen to the EMCRIT podcast here: Fluid Responsiveness with Dr. Paul Marik

Papers to be reviewed:

Marik PE and Cavallazzi R. Does the central venous pressure predict fluid responsiveness? An updated meta-analysis and a plea for some common sense. Crit Care Med. 2013 Jul;41(7):1774-81.

Marik PE, Monnet X, Teboul JL. Hemodynamic parameters to guide fluid therapy. Ann Intensive Care. 2011 Mar 21;1(1):1.
